We have developed world leading technology enabling our customers to transfer funds internationally at the best possible exchange rate, for the lowest possible fee. We are a disruptive force in the area of cross border payments helping our customers send money to where it is needed most.

We are looking for a software developer to join the growing OrbitRemit team in Wellington, NZ. This is an exciting opportunity to have meaningful input on the OrbitRemit platform to ultimately provide our customers with the best money transfer experience. Our tech is predominantly a distributed micro-services architecture primarily built in PHP using modern practices running on docker and orchestrated with kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform, we are continuing to utilise Google Cloud Platform and its tools to evolve and scale our platform.

About the role

Working with the wider team, You'll implement new features, products and API's that are maintainable, efficient, reliable and secure. Projects could include integrations to new payout partners, developing new services to evolve our architecture or optimising our fraud and compliance processes.

Contribute and improve our existing products and services (external and internal) that make up the OrbitRemit Platform, with a key focus on evolving our services to our new standards.

Proactively finding and exploring better ways to improve the OrbitRemit platform to ensure it can scale to high customer demand, is always available and security is top of mind.

You understand and choose the best technology for a given problem and take ownership of your solution to completion and code to a high degree of quality.

What you would need to know
  • - Understanding and proven knowledge of modern PHP development and its wider ecosystem of tools.
  • - 2+ years experience in back-end development
  • - Experience with MVC frameworks - Laravel preferred
  • - In-depth knowledge of RESTful web services
  • - Experience working with microservice architectures.
  • - You know the importance of writing tests and you QA code before releasing
  • - Ideally you have worked with a cloud platform such as Google Cloud or AWS.
  • - Ideally a Bachelor's Degree (or above) in Computer Science or similar.

  • - Expert at problem solving with the ability to work independently and plan your own solutions to problems.
  • - Proven track record of building high performing and reliable code.
  • - Create performant, clean and well documented code.
  • - Passionate about technology, product and user experience.
  • - Strong communication skills and ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • - English as a working language
